The Silence of Dawson Island

Chile is a country that hides many secrets, with the passing of time these are coming out gradually and will reflect a reality unknown to many people and the living reality for others, this is the case of Dawson Island; I think it is unacceptable that events of such magnitude are forgotten, the deaths to go unpunished. It is amazing to think that human beings like us, as are the selknam, have been killed just for thinking differently, to have a different culture and a different way of seeing life. Culture makes us rich in knowledge, that is why we must take care and not be embarrassed of the Indians who founded our land; at school was normal that some make fan of those students who had an Indian surname, but we all have some of her blood and honored to carry some of that courage.
Such a nice place as the island Dawson needs to be recognized for its beautiful landscapes, it´s culture, it´s people, but it isn´t.
By 1973, the island was used as a military prison, where he was hosted again people who thought differently, those who fought for their rights and for the rights of others.
Although the island is tinged with blood, pain, death and suffering, still holds many important memories inside of a country, its history, because what is a country without its history? What happened under the military dictatorship was very important for Chile, and should serve as a guide for future generations, that children don´t forget what they experienced their parents and grandparents express them proud to give their opinion freely and make Chile a better place, a place free that does not forget those who fought for a cause and nothing stopped them.

  1. I appreaciate your concern about natives and their culture. There are still ignorant and intolerant people who make fun of what they don't know about, but slowly the world is accepting different opinions, and i hope that one day we get that utopian world that you talk about.
